Psalm 56:3 “Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You.”

There are many instances in God’s word where He commands the hearer not to be afraid. Yet in the reality of our world, we find many things to fear and be afraid of. It seems that fear and trust are not mutually exclusive, but rather we can have both feelings at the same time. So to the degree we increase our trust in the promises of God it tends to lessen our sense of fear.

When we find ourselves afraid we can make a conscious decision to trust in God. We can have confidence in the promises of God contained in scripture even though we do not feel it emotionally. We also have instances in the past when God has been faithful to remind us of how good He is. Sometimes we are strengthened by seeing prayers answered in the lives of others.

In fact, the longer we walk with Jesus, the more we realize how trustworthy He is and it is faith in Him that helps us to be less afraid.     -Bob
