Sunday devo - July 9, 2023

"The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants—things which must shortly take place. And He sent and signified it by His angel to His servant John" (Rev 1:1)

That word for “servants” in Greek is “doulos”. It literally means slave, the lowest of all slaves. In the NT this word has the connotation of one who freely gives himself over to servitude. We see this servitude modeled by Jesus Christ.

We were formerly slaves to sin before we knew Christ. At that time we didn’t even know we were slaves (nor does the rest of the unbelieving world). We thought we were free and in exercising that freedom we were digging ourselves deeper into sin.

Paul says in Rom 6 that we died to sin when we were baptized into Christ's death. He who has died has been freed from sin. Now having been set free from sin, we become slaves of righteousness.

What a great future lies ahead for those who trust in Jesus!
