“But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ. Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith;” Philippians 3:7-9 NKJV
As a father, I have watched my daughters’ interests change as they grow and mature. Some of the worldly things they hold to be important one day (such as clothes, toys, or movies) can wind up in the donation pile the following year.
When Paul committed his life to Christ, he reprioritized the things that he once held dear (such as his religious pedigree and his strict obedience to the Law). As God did a work in Paul, Paul realized that having a relationship with Jesus and depending on His righteousness (for salvation) were most important. He also realized that, in Christ, he was complete (Colossians 2:10).
Thankfully, our need for Jesus is not a passing fad that is relevant one year and antiquated the next. Like Paul, let’s continue to seek the Lord and be thankful for His righteousness.
