Sunday Devo - September 29, 2024

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with Whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. [James 1: 17]

I have always been fascinated by this verse, and the wording in the King James translation. I believe there are two key points to this verse; one is, that God gives good and perfect gifts.
The other dovetails with the immutability of God. Immutability is one of those 6-cylinder words (as Pastor Mike may say) that has to do with God’s nature of being unchanging. 
Deferring to google, I read that immutability is…”the biblical idea that God is unchanging in His character, will, and His promises.” And not surprisingly, this verse ties into that definition. 
We can find a related verse in Hebrews 13:8 where we read: “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever”.

Throughout life, in the midst of continuous changes, it is reassuring to remind ourselves of the consistent, unchanging, and stable nature of God.          -Roy
