1 Samuel 7:1 NKJV
Then the men of Kirjath Jearim came and took the ark of the LORD, and brought it into
the house of Abinadab on the hill, and consecrated Eleazar his son to keep the ark of
the LORD.
Could you imagine being the one who is responsible for the Ark of the Lord? Being
consecrated in the Lord’s work is to be set apart. While this means different types of things in the Old Testament, the idea is also in the New Testament. As Christians we are set apart to be holy. Thankfully, God has provided the Holy Spirit to guide us and to encourage us to be holy.
In 1 Peter 1:13-16 it explains it like this “Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be
sober, and rest [your] hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, [as] in your ignorance; but as He who called you [is] holy, you also be holy in all [your] conduct, because it is written, "Be holy, for I am holy."
Part of our Christian life is to be holy and set apart.
Encouraging our Christian friends in holiness is a way to help each other to live in a holy
manner.
