John 8:12, Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.

A true follower of Jesus will want to- and try to- walk in the light. In the past we gladly walked in the darkness of our own thinking, motives and actions, but once we chose to follow Jesus, and He being the Light that came to indwell us, we now love and desire the light.

Jesus gave us a new nature and new desires so that we can now live in the light and allow Him to illuminate our lives. Jesus, being the Light of the world, brings light to those who follow Him. When we follow Him, we stay in the light and do not walk in darkness.
