“So David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the Lord.”
And Nathan said to David, “The Lord also has put away your sin; you shall not die. However, because by this deed you have given great occasion to the enemies of the Lord to blaspheme, the child also who is born to you shall surely die.”” II Samuel 12:13-14 NKJV
Although David demonstrated many acts of faith during his life, he also had moments of compromise. One such time of compromise was when he had an adulterous relationship with Uriah’s wife, Bathsheba.
When confronted with the ugliness of his sin (by the mouth of the prophet Nathan), David did the right thing by acknowledging his sin. In response, Nathan informed David of the serious consequence he would experience. However, Nathan also let David know that God put away his sin, and that David would live.
In Christ, we find forgiveness, peace, and eternal life. In sin, we experience guilt, shame, and separation from God. Let’s not make room for sin in our lives (Ephesians 4:27-32), but, rather, enjoy an abundant life in Christ (John 10:10).
