Sunday Devo - October 11, 2026

2 Samuel 18:33 “Then the king was deeply moved, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and wept. And as he went, he said thus: “O my son Absalom—my son, my son Absalom—if only I had died in your place! O Absalom my son, my son!”

Being a godly father has never been an easy task and carries with it a lot of responsibility. In a family, the father is the picture of authority requiring respect and honor. The father also serves as the family priest being a godly example and spiritual teacher. David is often criticized for failing to adequately punish his son Absalom and for allowing him too much freedom to form a conspiracy. Despite the fact, like David we sometimes fall short of all that God would have us to do, God, our heavenly Father is faithful to bless us with eternal life through His Son, Jesus Christ.

We see in David the character of Jesus, as David would have died for his son Absalom. Likewise Jesus died for us even though we were rebellious. (Read Romans 5:6-9.) We have a Father in heaven who is perfect in His discipline of us.
