Psalm 107:1 (NKJV) “Oh give thanks to the Lord for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.”

In this chapter, the Lord’s deliverance of His redeemed people, and His ability to satisfy a longing soul is illustrated. After crying out to the Lord in their distress, and experiencing deliverance- variations on verse 1 are repeated. It mentions those wandering in the wilderness, hungry and thirsty, with fainting souls; those who sat in darkness and in the shadow of death, bound in various ways; fools living in sin and afflicted as a result of their poor choices, and those tossed about in rough seas. A theme emerges: “Oh that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness, And for His wonderful works to the children of men!” (Psalm 107:31).

This Psalm reminded me of the invitation for true rest, recorded in Mathew 11: 28-30 “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am gentle and lowly.”
