Sunday Devo - July 7, 2024

“If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.

Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.”  ‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3‬:‭1‬-‭5‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“Can’t see the forest for the trees” is an idiom that you may be familiar with.  In short, it refers to somebody that cannot see the bigger picture (forest) because they are so focused on the details (trees).

As Christians, our spiritual maturity depends, in part, on us focusing on the big picture in terms of what God says is valuable and true.   As we focus on God and what He has done for us, the things of this world (that are fleeting) will soon lose their luster.  And, instead of focusing on “trees” of temptation and distraction, we will focus on the details that really matter (that is, the things of God).
